In 1992, he was the winner of the “Chicago’s Finest Guitarist” competition, with sponsors that included Fender, Peavey, and Guitar Player Magazine. He was also featured in the “Spotlight” column in the April 1994 issue of Guitar World Magazine. In 1998, Mike–with his band SBS– won the Kool/H.O.R.D.E. competition hosted by the House of Blues.
